Norwex Dishwasher Detergent

The Norwex Super Jet Dishwasher Detergent is a phosphate, ammonia and bleach free, highly concentrated dishwasher detergent that conditions and softens water, minimizes hard water lime build-up and is biodegradable.

Used For:

• Dishes, glassware, silverware, plasticware, pots and pans.

How to use:

1. Pre-flush and remove large food particles from dishes.
2. Rack dishes and utensils carefully, being sure that soiled surfaces face water spray. Wash promptly after each meal.
3. For restaurants and commercial use: Add one cup directly to wash tank. For home dishwashers: Add one tablespoonful. Do not sprinkle over dishes but add directly to wash tank dispenser. Start normal operation.

Separate stainless steel from sterling silver. Do not spill onto silver items as detergent may cause dark spots. (Removable with silver polish) Note: Not recommended for hand dishwashing.

Now this is the second area where the Magnet Ball becomes extremely important.  Without the magnet ball, you use 1 tablespoon of dishwashing detergent per load.  With the magnet ball; you use 1/2 - 1 tsp. per load.  The magnet ball carries a five year warranty so not only does it make the water react as soft water but it reduces the amount of detergent clogging up your machine and being flushed down the eco-system.

If dishes are spotty, you are using too much soap. You may only need to use 1/2 - 1 tsp if you have a Magnet Ball or salt water softener.

As with the Magnet Ball in my washing machine; I have to clean out the inside every few months to remove the buildup of mineral residue inside.  It builds up a hard coating almost like "coal chunks" and has to be cleaned out for the ball to remain effective.  Norwex recommends using an enviro cloth for this but I find the small end of a baby bottle brush to be much more effective.  The bristles get into the grooves inside the Magnet Ball whereas the enviro cloth just cleans the surface between the grooves.

Tip: Clean the inside of a thermos or coffee butler by adding 1 teaspoon of soap in and filling with hot water. Let stand for a few minutes then rinse thoroughly.

Norwex Mattress Cleaner

SO - ARE YOU SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY?

When I first read the statistics on dust mites, I started to itch!  I had never heard of these little unwanted guests in my bed before.  Now I find out that up to approximately 10 million of the little creatures could actually be snuggling up with me every night!  And, just to further nauseate you, each of these little buddies has between 20 - 50 poops a day.  Just Lovely!

The dust mites are microscopic bugs that primarily live on

dead skin cells regularly shed from humans and their

animal pets.  Dust mites are harmless to most people.

They don't carry deseases, but they can cause allergic reactions in asthmatics and others who are allergic to their feces.

Skin Cells and scales, commonly called dander, are often found in

lounging areas, mattresses, frequently used furniture and associated carpet areas, often harbor large numbers of these microscopic mites.  Since the average human sheds 1/3 ounce (10 grams) of dead skin a week.  That gives dust mites a lot to eat. Cats and dogs create far more dander than humans.

A typical mattress can contain tens of thousands of dust mites.  Sick yet?  Nearly 100,000 dust mites can live in one square yard of carpet.  Ready to convince your spouse to start bathing regularly? A single dust mite produces 20 - 50 waste droppings each day, each containing a protein to which many people are allergic.  Yuck!  The proteins in that combination of feces and shed skin are what cause allergic reactions in humans.  Depending on the person and exposure, reactions can range from itchy eyes to asthma attacks..  And finally, unlike other types of mites, house dust mites are parasites, since they only eat dead tissue.  Gross, but true.

Mites prefer warm, moist surroundings such as the inside of a mattress when someone is on it. (as previously mentioned) And pillows - did you know that 10% of the weight of a 2 year old pillow is dust mites and their feces?  About 80 percent of the material seen floating on a sunbeam are actually skin flakes.  Now I'm itchy again!!!

Norwex Crystal Deodorant

                                     

So where else can you get a deodorant that

The Norwex Crystal Deodorant is made from

 Mineral Salts and is hypoallergenic, non-staining and non-sticky.  It stops

odour causing bacteria, but does not stop perspiration.

The directions for use provided from Norwex
are to Moisten the top of the stone and use on the under arms, under the breasts or feet.

When using, try not to get the stone wet close to the base as it can dissolve and fall off the base.  Rinse under water before replacing the lid.

I find that the Crystal Deodorant works extremely well.  It does not clog up the pores to prevent perspiration and is fragrance free.  It also works well feet both in runners and in work boots.

The only thing I disagree with is the method of application.  I think you should apply the stone to the wet body after getting out of the shower instead of getting the stone wet.  It works just as well, rather than have water dripping down into the base of the container.  Also, after you rinse the stone, pat it dry in your towel before standing it upright and replacing the lid.

I learned this the hard way by letting the base become wet after rinsing it.  The whole stone dropped out and crystalized when it hit the floor.  The second one has lasted about a full year now and everyone in the house has had their own for the same period of time.  (No - we don't share!)  We're selfish that way.

How does it work?

Your perspiration, when it first leaves your body is sterile and odorless.  When it comes in contact with the bacteria on your skin, the bacteria multiplies and it's the bacteria that actually causes the odour.  The mineral salts deodorant stone leaves a thin film of the salts on your skin and the bacteria cannot live in the mineral salts environment.  You will not smell at all.  It works better than cover-up deodorants.

How long will it last?

Since only a very thin film of mineral salts is used each time you put it on, one of our mineral stones should last for a year under normal use.  It is a huge money-saver over commercial deodorants.

Will it stain the under arms of my clothing?

Norwex Product Review - Ultra Plus Laundry Detergent

I absolutely love going to markets and trade shows with this product!  We make up samples to hand out to all the customers.  One scoop of soap in a little plastic bag all tied up with a nice ribbon.  Each scoop is two tablespoons of soap.

As customers approach the table, we ask them if they have a top-load or a front-load washer.  For a top-load washer, you use 1 scoop of detergent per load, ie: one sample pack.  But for a front-load washer, you only use 1/2 tsp. of laundry detergent!  Therefore,  the sample pack we are handing them will actually do 8 loads of laundry!

It's really funny to watch the look on their faces and also how many times we have to repeat it until they actually believe that we aren't totally confused.

Norwex Dryer Balls - Product Review

SO DO NORWEX DRYER BALLS WORK?            

Absolutely!  But when it comes right down to it, you can use any brand of dryer balls you like as long as they are cylindrical in shape.  The unique design of the Norwex Dryer Balls lift and separates the laundry while softening the fabrics.  The round dryer balls that you normally see on the shelves simply bang and thump around in the dryer and are totally ineffective. 

Norwex explains the concept of the cylindrical shape of the dryer balls as "creating a Centrifical force that lifts and separates clothes, allowing air to flow more efficiently and reducing drying time. My colleagues claim that using dryer balls reduces the drying time of a load of laundry by 25 percent.  I've found the number to be more around 15 percent.  Basically, I tell my customers that if they still have static using the dryer balls that they are drying their clothes for too long.

The dryer balls are non-toxic, allergy-free and safe on all fabrics.  Because they lift and separate the clothes during drying, they soften and require less ironing. In areas with cold winters the dryer balls have to removed from the dryer after each load as the cold air from the outside vent

Magnet Ball - Product Review

The Norwex Magnet Ball has to be one of the most under-rated items in the Norwex Catalogue.  Norwex describes the Magnet as a money-saving device that removes calcium molecules from the water by magnetically attracting them to the inside of the ball; making the water behave as "soft" water. They recommend that you use the Magnet Ball in both your dishwasher and washing machine.  Note:  Not to be used in front loading washing machines.

By softening the water, the premise is that you will save money on detergent in your dishwasher and washing machine because you can use 50% less soap.

I haven't been able to find any scientific information that will confirm the claim that Norwex makes but from personal experience, I can tell you that it does work.  I live in the city and supposedly have
treated water but still use the magnet ball.  Approximately every 3 months I have to use the small end of a baby bottle brush to clean out the inside of the magnet ball.  What gathers inside the ball is a hard black crust - definately a mineral material attracted by the magnet.

For those outside of the urban areas without treated water, the magnet ball may provide some help; but the only way to truly soften the water is to have a water softener outside the house before the water enters the system.  This runs true to "smelly cloths" as well.  If your water is full of minerals, your Norwex cloths will smell the same as your old cloths did as it is your water that is causing it.  They will need to be soaked in vinegar and then boiled for 10 - 15 minutes to get the smell out of them.

I firmly believe that Norwex is correct in their statements.  I leave the Magnet Ball right in my washing machine and use 1/2 of a scoop of Norwex Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent.  (Approximately 1 tablespoon)  Our laundry has been done like this for over 2 years now and I am perfectly happy with the results.  It has also driven the very toxic fabric softener out of our home.

Norwex Micro Pad (Alternative to Magic Eraser)

The Norwex Micro Pad is offered as an alternative to the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and, I suppose, all the competitive products that have been introduced since it came on the market.  But here, I'm going to give you both sides of the story as I know it.

The Norwex Micro Pad is chemical free!  They are also 25x more effective at deep cleaning than just the envirocloth as it is a lightly-abrasive sponge.  As they are chemical free, there is no danger of the micro pad causing abrasions or chemical burns. There are the standard precautions attached to the micro pad that are attached to other like products:  

PLEASE USE CAUTION on painted/wood surfaces, as the pad is abrasive.  DO NOT USE on auto paint, polished/glossy surfaces, or brushed, satin dark or faux finishes.

Norwex recommends that you cut the micro pad into 4 pieces before using to prolong the life of the pad.

Having used the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for a few years prior to trying the Norwex Micro Pad, I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed in the Micro Pad performance. Accustomed to black marks wiping off the walls with ease; I found that I had to rub quite hard with the micro pad and even introduce some dishwashing detergent into the mix.  I also found that the micro pad broke down easily.

On the other side of the fence:

I have had professional painters tell me that they can identify every area where someone has used a Magic Eraser or similar product to remove a spot off a wall.  Apparently the chemicals soak right through the paint into the gyprock and should be primed before they can re-paint the wall.

Although there are several stories floating around about the harmful chemicals in the Magic Erasers, including Formaldehyde; you can easily do your own research on-line by just calling up "Mr. Clean Magic Erasers".  There are lots of websites available containing information on the subject.  You can  readily obtain the MSDS sheet on the erases by calling up "Magic Eraser MSDS"

So the jury is really out on this one folks and I'd love to hear your comments.  I try to stay chemical free and use the micro pad first.  But when I need power - I still have my Magic Eraser hidden deep in the cupboard under the kitchen sink.  (ssssshhhhhh - its a secret!)

Norwex Car Wash Mitt

Norwex Antibac Pet Set

Norwex Bathroom Scrub Mitt

The extra-long fibers are extremely thick and are great for doing a quick wipe-down after a shower. It takes no more than about 30 seconds to wipe the excess water off the shower walls and leave them streak free. If extra attention is needed, the Microfiber scrubbing mesh on the other side of the mitt removes stubborn dirt and grime.
For cleaning older dirt and stains, the Scrub Mitt can also be used with the Cleaning Paste or the Norwex Descaler. The Mitt has an inner sponge liner for extra absorbency.

This beauty is a wonderful addition to the Norwex line of Organic Personal Care Products!

As previously mentioned, I was not someone who focused a lot on skin care. I was at my daughters house the day after she received her Olive Oil Salt Scrub and she pinned me down in the kitchen and attacked me with it.

I spread it on my hands and it felt really grainy (the Dead Sea Salt) but I rubbed it in thoroughly. It doesn't take very much to saturate your hands. When I washed the Dead Sea Salt off my hands; they felt velvety soft and moist. Within 2 minutes I was sitting at her kitchen table with both my feet covered in the salt scrub, a big container of water at my feet and a towel in hand! The results were the same!

You do have to stir the container thoroughly before you use it - makes sense as the salt granules are heavier that the oils and they gradually sink to the bottom. But, the result is well worth it. I have now used it a few times on legs, arms and feet and the scrub really exfoliates the dead skin and moisturizes your body.

I guess I'm becoming a convert - give me a few months and I might even agree to have my picture taken for my website!

Norwex Face Lifting Serum

Ok, I have to admit that I haven't been really consistent with using skin care products in the past. A quick look at my face would tell the tale. Born and raised in the country, we didn't worry very much about the effects of the sun.

Once I started using Norwex products, I decided that if I was selling it; I had to try it. So, along came the new Face Lifting Serum.

At the Norwex Convention in August, they brought someone on stage that had been using the Lifting Serum on one side of her face for one week. Everyone was amazed at the difference between the two sides; obviously giving the Lifting Serum the "thumbs up".

However, because I was sitting in the back of the room and couldn't see, I decided to try this myself. So, for a whole week I applied the Lifting Serum on the right side of my face. The wrinkles are a lot less visible and seem almost to be "filled in".

When asked what you can't do in the house, I always told my customers the only things that we were really missing were Oven Cleaners and Drain Cleaners. Well, this year we got them both!

Since I have a self cleaning oven, I wasn't really suffering for an Oven Cleaner. However, I am really happy to see the Drain Cleaner arrive. We had long since given up the commercial drain cleaners as we live in an older home and they simply eat our copper pipes. For years we were down to plungers and snaking.

When I chose to make my home "Chemical Free" with Norwex, I didn't have a problem ditching my pre-wash sprays. However, I found making a paste out of the Norwex Ultra Plus Laundry Detergent and rubbing it into collars and stains rather messy and cumbersome to say the least.

Norwex Oven & Grill Cleaner

NORWEX OVEN AND GRILL CLEANER

It was absolutely perfect timing when Norwex announced the "New" Oven and Grill Cleaner.
Now is the time when we are all cleaning up our barbeques and putting them away for the season.

I was quite excited to try this cleaner out for a couple of reasons:

1. You can spray the oven and the oven racks all at one time while they in the oven.
2. You can actually use the cleaner on self-cleaning ovens thereby saving on the 3 - 4 hours of energy costs involved in the cleaning process.
3. Wear Gloves when cleaning the oven. The enzymes in the cleaner are designed to attack and break down dirt and bacteria. Protect your hands.
4. Do not stick your head in the oven when spraying the cleaner. You didn't do this when you were using the toxic cleaners so why would you start now? Same reason - the enzymes are very powerful and you do not want to breath them into your lungs.

I found that the cleaner was very effective and worked very quickly. No more trying to clean the racks with a spirinette or spirisponge after they had been sprayed and left sit. With the Norwex Oven & Grill Cleaner they just wiped right off!

• Allow the cleaner to work for 5 minutes.
• Wipe the surface with a damp envirocloth and rinse thoroughly with water. Stubborn stains may require more than one application and a scrub with a spirisponge.
• After cleaning, heat the oven to 200 deg. F for 10 minutes prior to use.

GRILL CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS.

• While the grill is warm, take a spatula and remove the excess grease and food deposits by scraping them into a grease trough/trap.
• Apply undiluted Oven and Grill cleaner onto the grill
• Allow to work for 5 minutes.
• Lightly agitate with a spirisponge
• Rinse surface completely with water
• After cleaning, heat grill to 200 deg. F for 10 minutes before using.

HINTS, TIPS AND HOW-TO's

• Use of gloves is recommended as prolonged contact with such effective cleaners can be hard on the skin.
• It is recommended that users heat their ovens to 200 deg. F for 10 minutes after cleaning to eliminate any remaining residue before using the oven. However, as ingredients are 100% safe; this is a suggestion, not a requirement.
• The product works in 5 minutes or less without caustics or acids by using a very aggressive, but safe, microbe/enzyme system. The latest technology has been used to formulate the solution with microbes and enzymes that work much faster than conventional microbe and enzyme-based products.

Standard oven cleaners contain lye and petroleum distillants and come in aerosol containers. None of this is good for your health..and certainly not good for the environment. Standard oven cleaners carry a health rating of 3, thich means they cause serious health effects and they are known to cause burns to skin, eyes, mouth, throat and even stomach - on contact! Overspray has also resulted in permanent damage to flooring and countertops.
Norwex Oven and Grill Cleaner carries an health rating of 1, comes in a pump (which sprays very effectively, resulting in less use of product), and is also much friendlier from an environmental standpoint due to its ingredients and packaging.
The primary active ingredients are enzymes and bacteria which do an amazing job of naturally breaking down baked-on fats, oils greases, proteins and carbohydrates. Simply heat the oven to 100 F, apply, wait for 5 minuts, and wipe with an Envirocloth. Really tough spots may require a second treatment and/or scrubbing with a Spirisponge. Use of gloves is recommended, as this cleaner is amazingly effective, and prolonged contact could result in some skin irritation.

Norwex Antibac Window Polishing Cloth

The theory is that the Norwex Antibac Window Cloth ($18.99) will polish smooth surfaces, such as your windows, mirrors and granite counters, to a streak-free, brilliant shine, but the question remains, "does it actually work?"

The answer, based on my personal experience, is a HUGE "Yes!" I'm sure that when I say, "I hate washing windows", I'm expressing the sentiment of most of the people reading this blog. I hate using the mounds of paper towel, spraying the Windex (which always gave me a mild headache), wiping and wiping and wiping in circles trying to get the window dry and eliminate the streaks, only to look through my window from the other side to discover that the entire thing was streaky!

So, I generally avoided washing my windows until absolutely unavoidable ~ then at least the streaks were a big improvement from the dirt that was there before! But when I got my Norwex Window Cloth, I became a window wash-aholic....it is so fast and easy (and yes, even fun) to get super clean, streak-free windows!

I use this cloth for my windows, mirrors, flat screen computer and TV monitors, & microwave front. I don't have granite counter tops or stainless steel appliances, but from the reports of others who do, the Window Cloth works wonders on them.

How to use the Window Cloth:

This cloth is best used as a drying cloth. You can either lightly spray the surface with water and then use the window cloth to dry and polish, but I personally prefer to wash first with a Norwex microfiber cloth, which really cleans the dirt, and window cleaner residue off.

Then wipe the wet, clean surface with your window cloth until dry. There's no need to wipe in circles even, just back and forth or up and down, and once around the edge - you will love the results!

Another great tip from Ann in Ontario is to use the Window Cloth on your Crystal Wine Glasses, Crystal Bowls and all the cherished items in your china cabinet. Sitting in the china cabinet, these items become slightly cloudy and dusty. Ann recommends that you use a slightly damp window cloth when you are taking these items out to use. A quick wipe with the cloth and your wine glasses sparkle!

To take care of your Antibac Window Cloths:

They can be washed and dried in your machines using Norwex Ultra Power Plus Laundry Detergent.

Dry them with low-lint items (eg sheets), because the microfiber will grab lint off other things in your dryer if it gets a chance!

Do not use fabric softener or bleach. Bleach degrades the fabric, and fabric softener coats the fibers and wrecks their grabbing power. (You can use Norwex Dryers Balls in place of fabric softeners ~ they help eliminate static and reduce your drying time!)

NOTE: If watermarks are left, the cloth is either too wet or the cloth is removing old cleaner residues. In this situation, clean off the surface with a wet Antibac cloth first, then polish with a dry window cloth.
